Dr. Vinay K. Hazarey [Figure 1] born on 20 th January 1953, completed his BDS from Nagpur University in 1975 and his MDS (Oral Pathology) in 1978 from Bombay University. After his postgraduation, he started his academic and research career as a research dentist in charge of basic dental research at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. Then he joined Government Dental College, Nagpur in 1980 and has served the Department of Oral Pathology as Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor. Presently he is working as Dean, Government Dental College, Nagpur.
Dr. Hazarey has received various fellowship awards like Commonwealth Medical Fellow awarded by Royal College of Surgeons, King's College, School of Dentistry, London, American Cancer Society University fellow by UICC conference, Washington D.C. July 2006, and ACS Leadership Training to Advance Community-Based Cancer Control New Delhi, April 23-28, 2007. He has delivered several guest lectures both in India and in other countries like Japan, Malaysia and USA. He had also been a panelist in International symposium which include 'Betel Quid and Oral Health' at International Congress on Oral Pathology and Medicine, Singapore, 2003, 'Areca Quid with Tobacco Induced lesions' at 5 th International Conference on Prevention of Tobacco Related Diseases, University of Hong Kong 2006. Dr. Hazarey has served immensely to the growth of Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) and was the President of the association in the year 2006, and had also organised the 7 th National Conference of IAOMP, Nagpur in 1998.
Dr. Hazarey has many publications in National as well as International journal to his credit. He has primarily worked on various aspects of oral submucous fibrosis which include case control studies, role of copper, electron microscopy, molecular biology, prevention and treatment modalities. At Government Dental College, he is also incharge of the oral precancer-cancer clinic (tobacco control programme) since 1997. As an incharge, he has worked on various aspects of tobacco control like deaddiction, motivational camps, legislation, advocacy, and public awareness campaigns.
